On the 8th and the 9th of October, we learnt about user centered design. This topic is about finding a way to gather information about how people would view your product.

On the 8th of October, we had a discussion about how user centered design works and how this will be helpful for up and coming projects. On the 9th of October, we had a practical class on the topic and we made three different steps that's used in user centered design (Empathy map, Persona, and User Journey).

User centered design is a way designers find a way to find what needs the audience want in a design. The UCD interactive process is to process is brain storm questions a client would ask themselves when they access a website for example. This method is almost a blend of surveys, focus groups and interviews all in one where you get a wide range of information from many people.

The Empathy Map…

The process of beginning the research technique is by starting off with the empathy maps where you would have to find figure out what emotions the audience will have when using the product. The five main points to bare in mind when creating an empathy map are seeing , thinking/feeling, saying, hearing, and the clients name and background. In the practical lesson we were all put into a pair and had the choice of picking different online apps/websites. We picked a travel card online app and ask us non bias questions we think the audience would ask themselves if they purchase something.

Persona…

After the information is gathered altogether from the empathy map, the next step is to make a persona profile page, which shows the persons information such as name, age, occupation, biography, goals, motivations, personality, and interests. This information is gathered to see what sort of person they are and know how they will react to situations by looking at this information. Me and my partner were tasked to make up a profile for someone that might use this app for travelling.

User Journey…

The last step is to make a user journey which is a step by step guide of how the costumer we picked for the persona task would go through the process on the travel app. This includes what optical of how they would cope if something good or bad happened with the app to reach the final goal, which is finding the way to purchase tickets.
